  • After a relatively warm couple of days, windy conditions and high surf are expected for mid-week, followed by another significant cold snap this weekend. Strong northerly winds will develop Tuesday as an area of low pressure strengthens along the North Carolina coast, according to the National Weather Service. (OBvoice)

  • Nags Head is moving toward mandatory recycling under a plan that calls for replacing one trash pickup a week and doing most of the collecting itself. Outer Banks Hauling now picks up recycling for residents and property owners who choose to sign up and pay for it themselves. (OBvoice)

  • Hearings are on tap in Wrightsville Beach and Hampton Roads for opinions on offshore oil and gas development, but none have been scheduled on the Outer Banks, which many see as a major stakeholder. Bob Woodard, the chairman of the Dare County Board of Commissioners, has written a letter requesting a public meeting here and Nags Head Commissioners last week OK’d doing the same thing.(OBvoice)
