  • Consumer protection officials investigating OBX gas prices–Last week, the county Board of Commissioners approved a letter expressing concerns about gas prices that at times have been 60 cents higher than on the mainland. “We appreciate the quick response from the NC Attorney General’s Office on this matter and look forward to hearing results of their investigation,” Board Chairman Bob Woodard said in the statement. On Friday, prices were averaging about $2.17 a gallon on the Outer Banks. In Elizabeth City, prices were down to $1.94 and in Moyock, $1.99. (OBVoice)

  • Three concepts featuring open spaces, children’s play areas, a pavilion and public art will be tapped to create a final plan for Dowdy’s Park in Nags Head. The concepts were presented at an open house Tuesday night led by consultants hired by the town and a committee that has been meeting for a year on transforming the old Dowdy’s amusement park property. • First distillery on the OBX set to make bottles of rum–All that remains for Outer Banks Distilling to launch its premier product, Kill Devil Rum, are a few final inspections. • Controlled burns along sections of Bodie Island in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore are planned between Feb. 1 and March 30 as conditions allow. The National Park Service will conduct the burning on about 500 acres east of N.C. 12, from Whalebone Junction south to Old Oregon Inlet Road and on a 400-acre section west of N.C. 12 from Whalebone Junction south to areas that were burned in 2014. Primary goal is to reduce fuel and the threat of damaging wildfire to the 256 houses along the National Seashore boundary. (OBVoice)
